The practice of The Concrete Muse is grounded in concrete as both material and metaphor, a sustained engagement with surfaces shaped by time, pressure, and exposure. Working across photography and mixed media, the work attends to cracks, rust, erosion, and compression as registers of endurance, vulnerability, and transformation.
Through these two modes, intimate terrains emerge, oscillating between abstraction and recognition. The work resists direct narration, allowing material to function as a stand-in for the body and for memory, a language of surface rather than statement.
Central to this practice is apophenia, the impulse to find pattern and meaning in what is scarred, random, and worn. This tension between impermanence and persistence drives the work: what endures, what erodes, and what a damaged surface reveals about the force that shaped it.
